Passenger Side Window Won't Roll Up Without Help

Hi. I'm new to the site and new to '02's.   I have a nice '75 that I am happily driving as often as possible; but recently when I tried to roll up the passenger side window, it rocked back in the track, and I needed to push it forward with one hand as I rolled it up.

I removed the door panel to access the window mounting hardware; but have not been able to figure out what is causing this. Everything seems tight; but it still rocks back.

I'd sure appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

2002 door windows have infinite adjustments; when properly adjusted, everything works just fine, but getting that proper adjustment is a real PITA.

Keep in mind that the rear track for the window (which isn't visible as it's down inside the door) is also adjustable both fore and aft, and sideways; if your vent window frame is making good contact with the rubber seal around the door opening, I'd concentrate my efforts on that rear track to make the window go up and down smoothly.  The vent window frame (and the window's front track) is adjustable on three planes, but messing with it can upset the vent window frame-to-door opening seal and cause wind whistles and leaks.

Have fun--it's not difficult, just time consuming.

To anyone following this, I'd just like to offer it as a cautionary tale.

I began following the directions suggested above, and things were definitely improving, so I believe that the procedure is a good one, and thanks for suggesting it.

However, I think I may have been a little too aggressive with an adjustment to the rear track, and I broke the window.  Boy, am I now feeling stupid. I'm also going to be picking little bits of glass out of everywhere for a long time.

I guess all I can say is "take it easy as you make your adjustments"

If it makes you feel any better, I had the driver's side window on my '02 break all by itself, with the car sitting in the driveway, in the shade with no one near it, with or without rocks, bullets etc.  It just...broke, and most of the glass landed in the driveway.   That still puzzles me.

Tempered glass is funny stuff; it's very tough until it's tapped just right, then it disintegrates--as you found out.  Never ever try to bend or twist tempered glass as it will shatter.

Someone on the board will have a spare glass for you.

cheers

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
