Kugelfischer Pistons Remanufactured

Good morning at all,

After the gaskets kit for this pump, I just share my last experience about the pistons of the kugelfischer pump.

I machined 2 pumps, one for 6.6mm od and 7.5mm od for the pistons, in the same time i removed the spring washer and the snap ring, i used the same material for the piston with heat treatment to have the same hardness, you can see the pictures of the set up:

i think we will have news of the 7.5mm pump in this month, it's on the car but it take time to set the pump and the rest of the engine.

Regards,

Greg

Spectacular. We sure wish we had a set of those 7.5mm pistons for our 2.2L Metric Mechanic Lemons motor. We've been suffering along with just a hack involving the warm-up regulator. We'll definitely need to go with larger bore pistons if we ever implement the Toyota Previa supercharger we snagged from a local junkyard.

Thanks Max,

But in fact, i already done the gaskets kit for the tii pump.

The work on the pistons was not hard but very delicat between machining, honing, heat treatment, material choice, surface finish, the play (or gap) between pistons and cylinder head,  etc...

We will have some news at the end of this month.

Thanks at all for yours comments,

Gregory.

For your information, the 2 pumps work very well.

Now, if you are interested to repair (or up-grade)  your cylinder head with news pistons, contact me.

It stay some kugelfischer gaskets kit to sell.

Very interesting. :) I've been contacting you in the UK 2002 board about the same question. How does the pump work with 7.5mm pistons and stock Kugelfischer cam? We all know that the custom Kugelfischer cams are very difficult to make, but do you think that modified KF pump with 7.5mm pistons and stock KF cam will work fine with my engine setup:

90 mm JE pistons

292 regrind camshaft

High comp engine (around 11.5:1)

Alpina semi-spherical head (to match the pistons)

Alpina exhaust header

Alpina connecting rods

The cam (3D ) isn't difficult to machine, it's just difficult to find it (racing cam) to copy it. And the camshaft itself will difficult to machine, but i think that it don't need modifications.
The injection volume is driving with the stroke and the volume created by the piston diameter.
The stroke is managed by the camshaft and the 3D cam. The 3D cam is easier to machine or grind (in engineering set)
After with an engine like you, the pistons in 7.5 is mandatory. I think it was on alpina engine.
The a/f ratio is poor with a light prepared engine with the 6.5 mm pistons.
I tried to find a racing 3d cam without succes. But i asked to my machine shop, they can do it. And i have the software to design a 3D cam but i haven't any informations to start a design. The best solution is to grind an exist 3d cam and try it.

The main problem with 3D cam is that as far as i know there are few types. And even if you find one you don't know if it's the right type for your configuration. Somebody with good knowledge on the KF pumps should help with making a custom one.

I was asking if there will be much difference with changing only the pistons with 7.5 mm and keep using the stock cam? And if only 7.5mm pistons with stock cam will work for my configuration?

P.S. Let me know if i can help with the project of making custom cam.

Hi,

The pictures are lost.

I ordered 2 cylinder heads with new pistons, one in 7mm and one in 7.5mm.

The previus heads are working fine, one in 6.6mm (stock engine) and one in 7.5mm (in race engine) .

I will put some pictures when they will be available.

Regards,

Greg

Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
