My '68 1600 has a big fracture in the air cleaner base. Has anyone here tried a K&N like the RA-072V? It's 4.5"x7" oval and 3" tall. There is also a 2" tall version, but if the 3" one will fit I'd like to have the extra flow and dirt holding capacity. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/knn-ra-072v

Use the search function and read what others say about K&N.  It's generally not pretty.  I'd be leery of a long-time owner selling me a car with a K&N.

Funnly enough Im about to bn my aftrrmarket air breather. Once my motor warms up I feel that I loose a lot of torque

Due to the carb taking in very warm air.

I know K&N filters are not the best for filtering, but it's better than what I have on the engine now which is nothing at all.

Anyone who's handy with a MIG welder should be able to repair the fractured sheet metal on your existing air cleaner.  The fracture is probably the result of shot rubber mounts, allowing the assembly to vibrate and not be properly supported.  Or...
