Straight from poland. Was on ebay, I made an offer and was accepted. Quick shipping too. It fits in my Behr console, but the original owner had widened the hole for the faceplate of the Realistic 1984 era radio so that it is a little wide. I should be able to rig up something to make it more cosmetically happy. The wiring from 1984 is a mess also of course. This stereo is good because you can plug a cable into the back of the unit and run it to an ipod...

Adding photo of what appear to be period-correct radios pulled from various 2002's (Blaupunkt, Motorola and Audiovox). -KB

Thank you, KB.

The top-most unit appears to be a Blaupunkt Frankfurt Stereo US Kit, perhaps a 7636421 model (a 1976 model number but the example I'm showing below appears to be of 1978, "K," manufacture). If it survives, could you kindly post a photo here of this unit's identification sticker (right side probably)?

The two other units do, indeed, appear to be "of the period." Do either of them have meaningful identification stickers or other evidence of date?

Regards,

Steve

No official Blaupunkt model sticker. But there's an installation sticker from Vasek Polak which appears to indicate 1979, and the hard-to-read repair sticker shows serial number starting with a K. I've got another one just like this tucked away - will check for sticker. -KB

KB,

Thanks. Yep. It appears identical to my '76 model manufactured in '78 (also with a "K" prefix to its serial number). I know I've seen this model in early e21's, but it's certainly period-appropriate for a very late '02 as well. It's small and fits with an A/C unit such as the Behr.

Steve

Thanks, Chris,

I've now seen this model, a '76 model unit (763"6"421), with J, K, and L prefixes for the serial number (I have a K-prefix unit, pictured previously). That would seem to say that this '76 model was manufactured until at least 1979: J = 1977, K = 1978, and L = 1979. My example has a BMW sticker. This example has a Saab sticker, but I don't note any other differences, so it could be solely the installation kits that differ.

The 1979 dating of this eBay example might also confirm the 1979 Vasek Polak installation sticker on another example (label missing) shown earlier by KB.

Steve

Well it's not a blaupunkt but it came from the land of Germany and their far superior automobile called the 2002.

For Becker units, a letter prefix before the serial number also signifies the year of manufacture (I've detailed this previously on another thread).

G = 1971
