body and interior Grille Repair

[1972-2002]

So my right grille is missing the top crossbar. i have a donor grille but it is missing the same piece (?). Has anyone managed to put a donor bar on a grille. It will be covered by the black cover piece. thoughts?

 

Anyone want to trade an intact right grill (1972) for an intact left one that I have?

I've successfully epoxied a stiffener behind the grille bar-

 

you scuff the back of the aluminum up really well. fit something solid as a reinforcement,

then epoxy the pi$$ out of it.  Since they usually break off at the verticals, I've used stiff

wire bent to an armature to get a good adhesive pattern. 

 

Not a show fix, but for a driver, it's worked just fine.

You can use a piece of plain brass brazing rod, or a piece of aluminum tubing of the proper diameter to reinforce the glued-in grille bar.  Goo it up with thickened epoxy--especially on the ends-- and let it set up for a day or so before installing--and try not to torque the grille when reinstalling, as it will pop  the epoxy loose.
