Jon Tinker is winning the fab/m20 build category currently...

As well, his is winning the 'project creep' category.  LOL

Pretty impressive.

Never thought about that. I think that's what route I'm going to take. Would even cancel out the problem of the shifter coming out further back of the trans tunnel. Did you do any extra bracing?

Went out and finally popped the trunk in the 02. Found 3 four speed transmissions, a manual pedal box, and other random head bits and pieces. So excited to get this 02 on the road where it belongs.

Been daily driving my M20 converted '02 for a couple months. Absolutely love it. Still need to send the tach out and get it reconfigured but I've just been enjoying driving it too much to tinker with it.

Right now I have a Getrag 240 from an E21 323i. It fit with minimal clearancing but is defeinitely a tight fit. The shifter comes out the stock hole, and the trans tunnel only needed slight massaging. If I were to do it again I would cut the tunnel out and fit a Getrag 260/6 fromt a late model E30. My 4speed with 3.91LSD isn't the greatest over 70-80mph, and taller ratio diffs (especially LSDs) aren't easy to come by.

Even passed emissions testing! Apparently an M20 with no catalytic converter burns almost as clean as your standard carbed M10!

My M20 2002 has been running for over 2 years, has been to the track twice and has been used on numerous spirited driving events.

Alas, on the last drive, the drive shaft broke.  That part of the swap was not done well (the drive shaft has a serious kink at the center u-joint) and the stresses snapped the U-joint.  The shaft has yet to come out and some adjustments need to be made to remedy the problem.  I suspect there was quite a bit of power loss there too.

Well today I took shipment of my very first 2002 Parts Order.

First thing on the list were M20 Engine Mounts.. Went with "Manimal/Eugene02" mounts. Well worth the money spent in my opinion.

From what I hear and what I was told I should be able to use my E30 drive line with the G260 and not have any issues at all as far as length goes.

What are you guys doing for transmission mounts and CSB mounts? Those are now my biggest concerns. Haha.

Keep the pics coming. No better time to get work done than the winter. Expect a lot from me in the coming weeks.

After some research I found out that the Sin City Mounts are made with the intention of using a 4spd from the earlier cars. That complicates things with the drive line and you end up with a weaker trans so it was really a no brainer for me.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
