Wanted: Working Blaupunkt Frankfurt Radio

My 1973Tii came with this stereo:

Blaupunkt Frankfurt model 7632640

I have the original warranty card and instruction manual that came with the car, but the original owner replaced it in 1984 with a crappy Realistic digital radio...I am trying to track down this exact stereo to return to original.

The car has a BEHR A/C console and unit, does anyone know if this stereo will fit in this space?

Regardless, I am looking for one that works and is in decent user shape, does not have to be mint.

This is a Belgian delivered, USA model Tii if that makes any difference.

Thanks everyone!

Not a question, a comment.

It seems that a lot of different models went under Blaupunkt's Frankfurt name. Attached is a photo from the 1974 model year U.S. 2002 brochure (printed 2/74, so probably reflecting a radio manufactured in '73, or so). One like this would be optimal for your '73, unless, of course, you wanted the stereo version -- which looked very similar.

Besides looking to forum members, I regularly see monaural examples (as pictured) on eBay. Clean stereo versions seem pretty darned rare. German eBay has lots of them, generally with "M" and "U" rather than "AM" and "FM" on the dial and pushbuttons, and many (most?) of the German units seem to have short-wave and long-wave radio bands. But, given your particular car's history, one of these European versions could be just the ticket!

And, oh yeah, these ca. '73 models are pretty small and were often installed with Behr A/C.

Regards,

Steve

The 7632640 is not stereo but mono and a euro model with long and short wave. The 7632627 is the US Frankfurt and the 7632629 is the US stereo. I have a 7639670 mono US Frankfurt available which is vintage 1969, the face looks the same but it is AM/FM only.

I suspect achman was using "stereo" in a generic sense for radio and not in the stereo-vs-monaural sense. That's interesting that his car's original radio may have been the long and short-wave version: the car was delivered in Belgium!

Do you happen to know the date code methodology for Blaupunkt radios (Beckers have an initial letter before the serial number, starting with an "A" for 1965 and skipping both "I" and "O")? Is it represented by the 4th digit of the number for '68 and later units? E.g., a 7632XXX would be a 1972 radio, 7639XXX would be a 1969 radio?

Regards,

Steve

Yes, you are correct, I was using "stereo" in a generic sense.

I did some more digging, and yes, the radio that was originally fitted to the car was the SW, LW, and FM version even though the car was for US export and is a USA model. This is the Tii with two VIN tags, one Belgian and one German as discussed in a previous thread.

Still looking for one, there are a couple overseas, but by the time I buy one, it will take so long to ship that I won't be able to put it in before the show I want to attend in Sept.

Any tips appreciated on where to get one!

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
