Andys - Is This Your Turbo M42?

A friend bought one of the Rare Rides cars, specifically the one done in Estoril Blue.  I've looked it over pretty carefully and while it does need some detail work i.e. window squeegees, misc rubber gasket bits and the like, it generally looks pretty good and runs very strong.  Yes, the flares particularly the rears, could have been done more professionally but I saw no gaping holes where others have seen them.  I think it all comes down to how solid and well maintained the donor car was.  Some were just better than others.  In any case these cars as we all know are just overpriced cosmetic restorations.  What really sells them is the professional photography.  It obviously makes the cars look better than they really are.  My friend, like most of the others here, bought his car sight unseen relying solely on converations with the seller and the auction pictures of the car, a decision he now regrets.

I know this car far too well!  Hehe.  I also know they guy that bought it.  He has 2 cars from up there.  the red roundie and this one.  I haven't seen this one yet.  I can tell you that the car truly is a bad assed ride.  I had the flares, etc here.  I was going to do a Verona "turbo" tribute.  I had modern copies of the seats out of my 74 turbo.  So anyway here is a link to the "before".  I actually thought it looked pretty good as a stock looking car.

On a side note.  All new gaskets, new window squeegees, new door panels and front seats. 4 wheel discs, real turbo windshield lock strips, spoiler, script and gummi spoiler were included. 2 different limited slips. 3.90 and 3.64.  Flares were aftermarket, new mirrors and door handles.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
