2002 Aluminum Door Sill Reproduction (Original Accessory Equipment)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, was wondering if anyone here had these sills installed on their cars, since I was planning on reproducing them (they are NLA) I think would look awesome on my early car.

They were optional accessories of the time, and so far I have never seen them around, If someone could provide some rough measurements I could sketch up a cad file so as to have them reproduced to original spec...

Anyway, I'll await your replies...

Any info is more than welcome!

Cheers,

Bruce

I have those on my car. I'll get you some measurements.

It's a mexican poncho!

I would buy a set of those repros.

Cheers,

Ray

Ben take pictures. The stock door seal terminates at the stock sill. The picture shown above seems to have a seal that runs the bottom length of the door as well as a strip that holds the carpet down which I think you have also. And the poncho was from the Mother Earth catalogue

Ahhh great to hear that!!! I'm looking for length, width, height (thickness of the aluminum piece), screw spacing, and size of screw heads, so that to find the diameter of the chanfer of the holes... and also how thick and deep are the grooves?

Pictures of the setup would also be greately appreciated, the more the details, the more accurate the reproduction will be...

Also it looks as if there is a separate piece that holds the carpet in place...

if you can snap a couple of pics of that one and some measurements that should do the trick.

As soon as I get all the specs I'll start working on the CAD file, once done im uploading it here, I don't plan on making money on these...

With the cad file any serious machine shop should be able to make a set for you using a CNC...

My way of giving a bit back for all these years of support and help you guys have given me...

Thanks again!

Cheers!

That would be great!, having the overall width, length and height measurements I can source out all the other measurements (width of the grooves, quantity of the grooves, and size of the screw chanfers) from the paper rub, except for the depth of the grooves, just by giving me an estimation on that one should be enough must be something like half a millimiter or so.

The measurements I would need then are to sketch up the 3d model of the part are, the total length, width and hight (how thick the sill is) of the part, the spacing between the screws from center of screw to center of screw, and the depth of the grooves. Everything else I can source out of the paper rub (try if possible to rub over a section that includes one of the screws).

Anyway, can't thank you enough for this, I really appreciate it!  :)

OK here are photos with dims. The paper rub was a bust. The grooves are very slight. maybe .25mm

If you want better/different photos let me know.

Length is 950 mm

Width is 50mm till the piece curves. The curve is 10mm. The curve matches the profile of the sill.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
