Dent In Gas Tank

Recommended Posts

My '76 has a large dent in the back portion of the tank.  Any suggestions to pushing it back out appreciated.

I am thinking to remove the sender and poke something in there.... but maybe sealing the empty tank and using compressed air would be a possibility.

Thorts, anyone?

drive car till nearly empty or remove lower drain bolt if your tank has one

and drain contents

disconnect the battery!

support with jack stands!!

remove tank gauge sending unit and with a long clean piece

of 2x2 wood gently use as a drift punch and tap out the dent

from inside.

your likely to do more damage than good

depending on how it's dented, you may be restricting

fuel pick up, and you may have reduced capacity
