Howdy -

I am interested in rounding up those of you that are in the Houston area for the occasional Houston get together, and wanted to gauge interest.

The plan:

- 1st Saturday of the month (starting in August), around 4 in the PM

- Liberty Station bar on Washington (though other suggestions are welcome)

Anyone interested?

Howdy all.  I am finally getting this rolling.

In order to make it easier to coordinate, I have started a FB group, creatively called "Houston BMW 2002 Owners," which will largely be a vehicle for scheduling get-togethers.  Feel free to join so that it is easier to track everyone down.

As a start, I propose that we kick it off early in March:

Sunday, March 2 at 12 CT

Liberty Station on Washington Ave (http://www.libertystationbar.com/)

For those of you that posted e-mail addresses, I will ping you with this directly as well.

Can you post a link for the FB page? I searched for it but couldn't find it.

Here is the link to the group FB page:

I look forward to seeing all of you there.

Just a bump reminder for those of you with memories like mine.

Sunday at noon

Liberty Station on Washington Ave.

I'm buying

Since (most of us) don't know each other, I will be wearing a Daryle Ward Cubs jersey (another overweight lefty from Houston with a bad back).

I hope to see you all there.

Well, the first get together proved to be a bunch of fun, with five of us getting together to drink beer, eye each others' cars and talk about all things 2002.

Two of us rolled up in more modern versions of the 2002, me in my MINI Cooper S and Steven in his BMW 135i.

Cheenu brought the first car for us to poke around with his red 74 tii daily driver, followed later by Jeremy in a Fjord Blue 71 tii touring and JP in a Schwartz Baur 2002.

The next get together will be April 6th.  Please let me know if you have a preferred time/location.  Otherwise we can do Liberty Station again.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
