M42 Engine Swap

Recommended Posts

Unless you go forced induction. The M42 has been turbo’d a lot and seeems easier to turbo than the M10. So a turbo m42 can give you 250+ hp easily...also what’s the cost of a 190 hp M10 run??  I would bet about double what an m42 runs.  What are you doing to reliably get that hp?  I’d be very very interested in a FI system that would take my 140 hp or so carb’d M10 and add 50 hp.

Very good comments yes really impossible to turbo a carbed car so an M42 easier to slap a turbo on (as fuel injected but will probably burn up engine as turbo engines need bottom end engineered for low compression , high temp, boost pressure.  M42 without turbo just don't see the point..alot of work for a "dog" of a power plant.    Better off just buy an e36 318 and have a great car without all the hassle

We are finishing 2 new  M10 engine designs  both with large diam forged pistons, stroker cranks, 292 cams, porting with tight tolerances !     Will be deploying one with modern custom designed fuel injection and one with carbs.   We provide kits for others to assemble or we can provide complete assembled engines ready to ship.   Also have completed design be able to provide a throttle body fuel injection that average enthusiast can bolt on car much like aftermarket fuel injection for v8's have been available for some time.     Looking for Beta testers to try the setup     Trick on this is making it easy to maintain vs. a custom megasquirt laptop experiment.

In general  our M10 engines a fraction of cost of rebuilding and S14.    Is very similar engine less the S14 cyl head.   HP comes from displacement and from flow of air.    Have not figured out how to replace the S14 head so this is always going to be the advantage of S14 with more valves per cylinder but can you get 80% of the perf for 1/3 rd the price !

If you want an engine built for a turbo then no problem inexpensive to do.  Issue is getting AC and a turbo in a 2002.  Most of our clients want an AC in their car and have not really figured out how to do both reliably ?  to fit ?

So now you're saying 160hp instead of 190.

Wow, a 15% decrease in just one day.

:D

Ray

Stop reading this! Don't you have anything better to do?? :P
Two running things. Two broken things.

Went to the site. No info on fuel injection kits at all. Would love info on that or maybe start another thread. Would love to see some real world examples like same engine carbed and then same engine with the FI kit. Also costs.

No crickets, don't use this site  much as heavily dominated with "experts" like Ray so no need for our expertise :)

We build 2002's and several other classic cars and as we have time we templatized innovations to assist others in building their own "restomod" 2002's after we install test and productitize kits (AC, suspension, wheel and tire packages, interiors, LED lighting, seals, sound deadening, bumpers, turbo trim kits etc.)

Check out our full AC / Heat replacement kits as an example.

http://www.dtechparts.com/bmw-2002-heat-and-ac-evaporator-new-redesigned-as-modern-car/

The full AC / Heat replacement has taken years to develop, we have installed, replaced, repaired hundreds of 2002 AC / heat systems and know strengths and weakness.  After we have deployed in dozens of our builds and now have productized so and average car enthusiast and install and when done has look of original dealer installed AC units but much more capable

As for engines 190HP very doable with current builds (piston size, head mods, cams, flow) all depends on fuel supply chosen (carbs vs. fuel injection).  Most of our clients want to modernize their 2002 with AC, stable idle, very street friendly that reduces peak HP to improve reliability and stability.   Fuel injection upgrades all part of the evolution to give clients high HP and additional features.      We have done same with engines, lowering cost, improving performance, reducing weaknesses and have installed in probably 200 2002's.

Fuel injection kit is coming to website and  available now based on our ability to support (local vs. not) but something we would prefer to get to know your needs via phone call and discuss best way to support

example what we have done with turn key cylinder heads

Call us 214 352 0868 if we can assist happy to share what we see, do and know and what we don't know

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
