I recently started a new job at a rack company, and was given a free hitch style bike carrier. I already have 3 bike carriers on the top of the car, but would love to get a hitch installed for some additional bike hauling capabilities, as well as in the future I would love to get a teardrop.

I've seen the photo of the hitch for the 2002, but does anybody have one they can measure out? or perhaps someone has the blueprints to build one? This project doesn't have any time constraints, but it would definitely come in handy.

On the big bumper cars, remove the center shock, and replace it with a steel bar the same size. It could be angled to avoid the bumper and flattened to accommodate the ball with the bumper being in place. You could even cut out the bottom section of the bumper to allow for removal. A large bolt holds the shock in place and looks like it would be plenty strong to accommodate a bike or even a small trailer. Not done it. But it looks feasible.

+1 -- been thinking about doing this -- and hoping it will work even with conversion to early bumpers.   The OEM Euro hitch would not work exactly as shown as the USA cars had extra reinforcements that would get in the way.  But, probably can be made to work.
