MegaSquirt and coil packs..

Yup. That is the impression I have gotten over the last few years every time I stick a toe in the MegaSquirt Pond. I have the L Jetronic in already so that helps leading into the MegaSquirt swap. It would be awesome to custom tune the efi since the L Jetronic is very limited in a 2.0 block. Still gathering info.

In this day and age I would just run LS1 style coils rather than EDIS. Easy to set up with either MegaSquirt or a Haltech.

Do tell! I'm liking this idea on my MS project.

I agree, I messed with EDIS for a bit but it's an impossible black hole when something goes wrong, no easy way to troubleshoot. Direct ignition through LS1 coils is much more straightforward.

I haven't worked with LS1 coils or any COP setup first hand, but working with edis isn't as bad as you make it out to be. There really is nothing too it; PIP and SAW lines carry info from your ecu to the edis and alter timing. There's two lines for the coil pack and other than the sensor pickup the rest of the necessary wiring is just power and ground. It takes 10 seconds to test an edis coil (check primary and secondary resistance, if out of spec replace) and if that isn't the problem you can always run edis on limp home mode to see if your problem is with the edis or the ecu.

The edis units are fairly bulletproof and running issues are most likely caused by bad grounds, loose connections, and interference if you don't route the wires properly or don't shield them. Really nothing out of the ordinary.

LS coils are "self powered" and do not require an ignition module. Wire them straight to the MS and you are good to go. They can be set up direct fire if you have cam sync or waste spark if crank wheel only. Set up info is all over the MS forums. Mounting brackets and wire sets are easy to buy or fab. With no module, diagnosis is easier, and spares are everywhere.

Awesome! That's what I was reading!! I know what all I'm doing now on my MS build! To the junkyard I go!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
