Quick Introduction-new member

Hello,

Thought I would make a quick intro since I have been lurking for a couple of years and will probably spend a lot of time here henceforth.

Finally found the right car for me and my wife, a 1973 2002Tii in Agave.

Very original car, I am the third owner, many documents since new.

Bought in Belgium by an american, and brought over here eventually.

Refreshed in the 80's, one repaint in original color.

VIN# 2763019

From BMW archives:

"The BMW 2002 tii US VIN 2763019 was manufactured on November 9th, 1972 and delivered the same day to Belgium, probably to a US citizen living there. The original colour was Agave, paint code 071."

Apologies if I ask newbie questions, I am a Miata owner who built my own FMII turbo Miata over the last four years, and although I know a decent amount about 2002s, I am sure I have much to learn.

However, the dream has been achieved.

Thanks

Brian

Hello there. I am in Ridgewood Queens, on the Brooklyn border. Let me know if anyone gets together sometime.

I'll be going up to the Saratoga Car Museum BMW vintage event in Oct.

Hi Brian. Looks like you picked up a very nice tii!

Can you please look under the front seats and see if there is an electrical connector for the front seat pads? Also - what brand of seat belts does your car have? Is there an electrical connector at the base of the retractor for the front belts?

I've been trying to see how far back in 73tii production BMW introduced these systems (my May 73 tii has all of the above).

Please share more about your car!

Nice! Was that tii for sale in CT?

I've got a 76 not too far from you in Williamsburg/Greenpoint.

I did get it in CT from a super nice guy.

You're not too far, we'll have to meet up one day...!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
