1973 Polaris tii on ebay

Recommended Posts

In the event anyone is considering this car on ebay, my Dad owned one suspiciously identical to it NC for a while and it was later bought by a guy in Chicago. It was not a life long west coast car as described by the seller nor was it rust free in 2011. I have asked the seller about the history without reply yet but it would be very unlikely for two to exist with identical after market fabric upholstery, identical stickers on the back glass and rear window, identical door mounted speakers missing the same emblem and the list goes on.

I will have to get Dad to search his old registration cards but if you compared the pictures I have of it to the one on ebay, it would be hard to dispute that they aren't the same. The seller did respond that he was only basing his description on what the previous owner told him.

My records show that this tii (2764034) was:-

On Craigslist for sale in Charlotte, NC, from Sep '09 & Apr '10.

On Ebay - Glenn Ellyn, IL, Jul '12.

This is consistent with your message.

Mileage was stated as 125k when it was in NC; I see it's down to 84k now.

The CA license plate starting with "6W" would have been issued last November, 2012, suggesting the car has not been in CA long at all.

The seller did reply to me and stated he was only sharing what he was told by previous owner. The left rear tower was repaired at some point. Driver's frame rail was also repaired (properly). There was bubbling in a number of spots when my Dad sold the car for $7000 as I recall in 2011 to a guy in Chicago who flew down to inspect and purchase it. Dad has inquired through eBay and we do have a copy of the NC registration complete with matching VIN. Seller told me he was investigating with DMV and would update ad accordingly. I will say the car was mechanically well sorted and driven from NC to IL in 2011.

I just found an odometer photo from May 27, 2011 that I took when we advertised the car showing 71,235 miles. Assuming the odometer has not been replaced since then, it now reads 83,753 which seems reasonable. Seems odd that it could have been rebuilt by the previous owner 24,000 miles ago since it has had at least 2-3 owners since 2011 mileage of 71,235.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
