Outstanding - and lucky!

Never heard of that place in FL where you found the car. Where exactly is it?

Jim

In the panhandle between Pensacola and Tallahassee. We call it the redneck riviera!

Thanks for the geography lesson. I rescued a car in 2004 from Tallahassee which took quite a while to remove all the pine needles and assorted other gunk from sitting down there.

Back from the road trip. Man, that was a lot of driving. Nothing quite like towing a vehicle though two lane mountain passes at 3am. The last day we drove for 22 hours. I did not realize it but you can actually rent a shower stall at most truck stops.

Whats the latest? Did you source out those parts?

Found the wheels, but still looking for the following:

Trunk lid

Header

Tobacco front and rear seats

Dash... correct for 1970

Dome lamp for slick top

rear parcel shelf

short console

Any leads appreciated!

Just sent a txt to the local parts guy. He is a faq member. I'll follow up.

Thanks for the follow-up....I will hold onto those black mesh wheels for you if you are still interested. I should have the stock steelies mounted on mine within the next couple of weeks.

So the next round of parts have come in. We have sourced from Pelican, Ireland, 2002ad, eBay, and local parts houses. We will be replacing the brake master cylinder, clutch slave and master, using stainless steel lines, rebuilt calipers and wheel cylinders, new rotors and shoes....well you get the idea. Basically all new hydraulic parts and brakes.

A previous owner did us a favor and installed urethane bushings throughout the car. We found an old inovoice from Korman.

Jim, you got that right! So far so good on the progress. Brake master, clutch slave and master, and rear brakes finished this weekend. Next weekend the front brakes and bleed the car.

I may be interested in your header as well!

The car now moves and stops on its own for the first time in over 12 years!

Next item on the agenda is to wrap so new skins on these old steelies. Then take a trip around the neighborhood and figure out what else need attention.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
