Paint Job Checklist Suggestions??

I am having a complete paint job done (glass out etc).

Can anyone offer exactly what I should make sure the body shop does in regards to old paint removal, primer, etc. Any advice would be appreciated. The folks I am using are really good - had work done there on other cars, but we all know how special the 02 is:)

Not sure how to answer that question but here are some thoughts:

What year is your car and what color (1974 Amazon Green)? There are differences on how the "grill" area is finished.

I know we say to let the body shop work with the products they are comfortable with, but have a conversation with the body shop about using House of Kolor clear.

One thing to consider is have the shutz cover the lips of fenders. These areas take a beating.

Have them mask off the VIN on the inner fender. Not sure if that area is bare metal or primer. It should not be body color.

Seam sealer should be applied where you can.

Nothing silly about anything he does! I borrowed his suspension rehab when I did mine. There is an abnormal amount of talent on the east coast. I am such a hack.

Nice pics and thanks for the sealer note.

The car is a 1974, Amazon Green. What I am most worried about is that the nose ends up correct, and that the car is prepped correctly for paint.

I am going to be giving them new front and rear windshield seals, door seals, rear window seals, tail light assemblies, door lock/handle gaskets, rear mirror gasket, a couple of new pieces of belt trim and lower trim as well. All OEM.

I assume they are going to sand the car down prior to paint, but I don't think it will be back to bare metal.

This is the time to reroute your rear drain tubes if you have a sun roof and if you are so inclined, reinforce your front end between the firewall and inner fenders. Plus reinforce your left motor mount.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
