Cris,

This is the original driver-side mirror from a 1967 PY 1600/2.

The mirror has 3 star-like images surrounded by "MADE IN GERMANY" in a semi-circle. It does not carry any brand name.

It is, like Mike mentioned, not side-specific.

Please post more info about your car! Color and more pics!

They should be chromed rectangular "flag" mirrors. There are lots of them pictured above in this thread.

So, I finally succeeded digging through six feet of snow, cutting through the metre thick bramble bush surrounding the car, and slaying the dragon that protects it. And I did not forget to take a flashlight this time.

I took some pictures of my mirror. I think it is clear that it is indeed not the original one - not only because there are slight differences, but also because it has a brand name on it - "Spitfire", which sounds distinctly un-German.

If anyone has an early mirror for sale, I'd love to hear about it!

Thanks Mike,

It would be nice to have a picture of an original mirror located all the way up to the front of the door skin. Mine is located there, but when I took it off, there was an extra hole - which leads me to believe the mirror has been changed.

As soon as I can get to the car I'll take a picture of the mirror that is on there right now, but if any one has a close-up picture of one of those early "thin" mirrors, that would be most welcome.

Thanks!

Cris

Hi Cris here are some some photos of my early swan neck mirror. It’s in bad condition but I’ll be restoring it sooner or later. When I got my car it had the flag mirror in the position of where the early swan neck should be.

Hi Tups - here's a picture showing the original mounting location of the swans neck mirror on my Feb 67 1600-2

Different mirrors were put on my car, but they kept the original mounting plate. Makes it easy to see where it was without the rest of the mirror in the way.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
