I suggest attending one of these as a spectator first. Bring a camera and comfortable shoes to walk around the facility. Watch how folks drive around this track (there are 3 different ones). I've been twice but still have not driven on the tracks yet.

Weather forecast is mild after a possible rain/snow mixture Wednesday and Thursday. I'll be heading to the track early Saturday morning to hang out and snap some pics Saturday while Marshall & Co. warms up the track.

If the weather holds out, I'm bringing the tii for some much-needed exercise. Will have empty passenger seat for anyone wanting to go....

Last time was 3 years ago...

My son and I are planning on stopping by Sunday before noon. We only live ~22 miles from there and even less "as the crow flies".

He wants to do some karting, but we both want to see your cars in action - hopefully meet you as well. ... if you don't mind.

Cheers.

That's right. He started karting there last year, but being only 12 at the time, he was stuck on the smaller/slower course ... but it was JUST what he needed (that and their kart driver training, which I think was very helpful for him regarding rules of the track, etc.). They have a nice program and we both enjoy it. They even provide stats to him so he can compare his driving with his previous visits and also with other drivers that week.

He turned 13 last week, but I still don't think he's ready to get on the adult kart track there. We'll see.

We'd come on Saturday, but that day is currently filled up with a baseball tryout, a softball tryout, and a basketball alumni game. So, if I can still move on my own legs Sunday ... you'll see us.

Spent most of the day yesterday at SP Main track. It was a beautiful, sunny day. Sun was so bright, I got sunburned on my face and neck.

Marshall had his trailer set up in a good spot at the back of the paddock, opposite the starting grid and the newly updated restrooms.

The morning sessions were off-schedule due to some minor track incidents, but the afternoon pace picked up and things were completed by 5pm.

Certainly the highlight of my visit was two ride-alongs with Marshall in the M2. Took me a little bit to adjust the 5-point harness for the first morning run which made it easier for an afternoon ride.

The morning run included more cars on the track including a student with instructor in a Porsche Cayman S. Marshall was ALL OVER the rear of the Cayman in the corners with the P-car pulling away in the straights. Both the driver and instructor gave us the "OK to pass finger" since the driver was getting nervous and making some minor mistakes on the track.

Since this was my first ride on this track, I didn't know what to expect. Marshall's car handles and accelerates similar to a proper race car. The 15" Euroweaves and S-drive tires were not liking the punishment, but held out nicely. I glanced at the speedometer a few times. We were almost at 120 on the straights and between 50-65 mph in the corners. The race seat and belts are definitely needed in this car. The S14 engine noise is addictive and Marshall's tuning makes the car run like a scalded cat.

Many thanks to Marshall for an enjoyable day at the track.

disappointing....no 2002 folks entered for the school, again.

even if you guys don't want to drive, you can come out and watch to get a feel for the process. heck, if you come out and volunteer to help flagging a corner or something, not only do you get to watch up close, but i believe you get credit towards a free school if you work a certain number of days!

should be a nice weekend...come on out!!!

even if you don't want to run your car, come on out to watch or help.  we can alway use corner and grid workers. no experience needed and you get a track side viewpoint to watch the others do did want to have fun!

another fun to watch deal is the LEMONS enduro race this weekend at the same track.  Grice and his band of wayward souls will be trying to make their 2002tii complete more than one lap!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
