5:30 am , my 71 02 is ready , all checked over yesterday, Miata wheels & race tires on , ready for the 110 mile trip to the Willow Springs Big Track. I am taking my son James this time with the intention of getting him a ride in one of the instructor's cars (hopefully a new Vette) I'll report back later , hopefully with video but with photos at least. The track is 2.5 miles, so far my best has been 2.01 , target to obviously beat that (hopefully not too much traffic like last time )

Cheers

It was the best time out there I got pole or 2nd for my sessions so had a few clear laps. The Miata wheels are great , cheap & look like a poor mans Minilites, 1/4 spacer needed on the front, I ruined 1 front tire before I put on the spacers, tie rod rubs tire , resulting in a bulge the size of a golf ball. The front tires are Yokohama Advan 032R (185 60 14 ) rear are Yokohama ES100 (205 60 14 ) The rear I use 1" spacer/adapters I had to roll the pass fender but the back is bad anyway so no problem, nothing rubs now. I am taking the back stretch between turn 8 & 9 at 95mph so I am well pleased with the tire grip.

congrats on taking 4 sec off your time!

wow..a soft r-comp tire in the front and a hard semi-performance street tire in the rear? sounds like a formula for massive oversteer! :-)

with all the track time, the rolled mudstain pic, knowing how flimsy the roof on an 02 is and from what i have seen of 02's rolled at the track, i would be putting at least a roll bar in your car. just a thought.

Hi Marshall , I was not too bothered by the tire discrepancy but now my car is running better I just found & bought a matching NOS Advan tire off ebay for $40 !!!! I am also going to be building a proper short block, the engine in my car is the original 1971 numbers matching block ,it must have a gazillion miles on it (flat top pistons) with a modified 121 head so I am planning on raising the compression, & balancing a spare block I have to take advantage of all my mods. A bolt in cage will be on my list then.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
