M20 conversion tach problem

Hey there,

Sp I decided to use the stock tach and do the tach mod conversion using a potentiometer. After connecting everything the tach still doesn't work. Is there something I am missing? The tach signal is connected from the e30 harness to the stock 02 harness but still no reading. Any advice would be great.

What year is your M20 wiring harness from?

From what I can tell the early style harness ('87) has a separate wire for the tach that does not run through the C101 round plug connector.

The later style harness runs this wire through one of the pins int he C101 connector.

Mine was an 87 donor. If I remember correctly, I think I ran my tach wire independently to the coil terminal and use the potentiometer. I can look again and double check. I did this several years ago.

The harness was from a 1990 325i. I just ended up converting an Autometer gauge to install in the stock space. I think it had something to do with the potentiometer. Thanks for the help guys
