Will Early E21 M10 Starter fit a 1973 M10 02

The starter is bad on my 1973 '02 project.

I have a 1978 320i parts car, 2.0L with a bad bottom end. I tried to check the parts numbers for the two starters, but according to realoem, my '02 VIN is for an E30.


Anyone know if I can use that E21 starter on the 1973 '02?

Thanks, c.d. and Toby. I kinda figured it must.

I took my old one to the auto electric shop today. I think the solenoid is OK, but the motor is the problem.

I will pull the E21 starter---- on a warmer day than today!--- and either swap it into the '02 if the old one can't be saved, or keep it as a spare. It is 14 degrees as we speak.
