Chrome / Stainless Sill Trim Fitting

Recommended Posts

Hi, i'm just in the finishing stages of completing a restoration. I have obtained the white plastic clips the push into the sills, and the chrome / stainless strip that runs full length of the car below the door line. However... I cant seem to clip them on reliably! Some clips pop off when others engage, i certainly wouldnt want to drive like it! Am i missing something? Should there be some nuts/bolts? Any tips much appreciated!

If its important, the car is a 74 right hand drive british 2002 Automatic.

The ones that have been available for the last couple of years do not hold all that well. Mine are just barely staying on. The trim does not come off in driving, but it doesn't take much to just pull them off.

What esty posted is a link that you can clic on for much info on this.

trim (side trim, I think) on an E21 and have morphed into 2002 rocker trim clips courtesy of BMW AG. The original small black plastic clips did a much better job of holding the trim in place but have been NLA for years.

You might try VERY GENTLY squeezing the trim piece's lips together with padded arc joint pliers to make the trim fit more snugly on those clips that are loose.

You know what - I was thinking that. Put some plastic plug type inserts in the holes (like a modern cars registration plate has) and use some nice quality dome head stainless screws...

I've got no confidence in the plastic clips at all!!!

The tip of slightly tweaking the metal itself for a snug fit worked for me. I was aware of the issue beforehand, so I was ready to play with it. Mine are on nice and snug. Now, with that said, I assume you know that the forward mount is a plate/bolt style fastener like the belt line trim? That really gives it a good solid hold, too. Good luck!!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
