WTB s54 m3 engine & tranny

Recommended Posts

Hello,

New to the whole 2002 BMW world.

Just bought a 71' off ebay and spun a rod driving it back home.

Now what...

I want to do a s54 (e46 M3) swap, looking for everything I need (motor/tranny+)

I live in Nothern California.

Any shops I could contact in the bay area/north bay that could do a swap?

Any idea where to get a S54 motor/tranny?

Side project for someone local...?

Thanks-

Sorry about your motor, did you talk to the seller about motor? If you used PayPal you might have some recourse through them for the cost of the repairs ? I have a 2000 M roadster with the S52 M motor and it is a beast , even with 9in rear wheels and traction control if you don't know how to drive, tail happy fun or panic happens quickly. The S54 motor has more power, although it is at the high RPM range, If you could fit it in a 2002 how you get the front sub-frame and suspension to support or control it ? Same with the rear, also the 2002 drive shaft , diff and half shaft would need to be upgraded to handle the power and then how would you stop it, not with the brakes on a 71 2002. You can buy a M10 rebuilt long block for $1500- $2500 depending where you get it and how it was rebuilt and keep the 2002 as stock as possible, it will be worth more in the future. If you want S54 power buy a used M Roadster or M3 sedan it will be equip to handle the power , you will probably spend less money and have 2 cars to play with:)

Good Luck,

Harry

I'd check in with JP at A1 Autoworks in San Rafael. He been around O2's for a long time and knows what's possible/realistic in the form of modifications. he has a bunch of great project cars in his shop every time I'm there.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
