Leaky engine? Pics

Recommended Posts

Pulled into the garage after coming home from school. Right before I close the garage door I see continuous drops of oil coming from the front of the engine. I threw down a couple towels and went in to get the camera so I can post the pics. Looks like there may be a couple of nuts missing here. Here are the pics

Hi,

the two studs are the remains of the AC bracket

location. clean them with a brush and put anti seize

on them then put a washer, a lock washer, and a nut.

the side hole in the block does not need a bolt.

the oil leak is probably coming from the chain

tensioner and also the front engine cover at the

head gasket. change the aluminum washer on the

tensioner cap and then re-tension the chain. as for

the head gasket leak just accept it as it is. the work

to reseal that area is a pain.

good luck

Guys I have also been losing coolant. Its not the headgasket as as the exhaust gases smell normal and doesn't have white smoke coming from it. Every week I have had to top off the radiator. It would be about 1/4 to 1/2 empty. Yeah I will probably pull the radiator and order a new hose set through blunt. Any reason to get the silicone hoses from ireland? Thanks for your guys help!

Only if you want the 2 fast and 2 furious day-glo blue hoses. The factory hoses are good for 30 or 40 years and may cost less. Contact Blunt @ www.blunttech.com

While you're in there and replacing hoses and flushing the radiator, replace your water pump. It looks like it's been there a while too. Don't buy a cheaper aftermarket one either. They're crap and will fail way too soon. Get the BMW OE one. Blunt will hook you up with that too.

Oh... and replace the oil and filter.

All cheap insurance...

Found the problems. First was the valve cover gasket. Put a new one on with some RTV and torqued it to spec and no more leaks there. The other leak is at the oil pan gasket. I'll try torquing the bolts to spec but will most likely have to replace the gasket. Im going to try this with the motor in the car like the faq write says.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
