Just looking for some information on 1600 engine mods. specifically a 1969 bmw 1600 with the original m10. i'm thinking an aftermarket carb, new cam, etc...but i am a bit lost as to what path to take as there is info available on '02 mods, but not as much about 1600's. any help from someone who has done some mods or knows about what will work please share! thanks a lot!

For 1600 you have many options. If you have a lot of $ you can make really fast car.

This one was really polpular in rally, i have ripped one part off once one of 1600ti alpina, the engine was wrecked and already out.

This engine could spin up to 12.000 rpm if it was good modified, it needed a special up to 14.000rpm meter, for any deatails i don't know, i just removed instrument closter, that is all that was usefull.

Mods for a 1600 are really the same as for a 2002 engine, just that your displacement is less so you need a bit less carb (i.e. smaller venturis) and appropriate jetting. Would help if you state what the car is being used for and if fuel economy a consideration.

BTW, I have a 1.6L bottom end with 10:1 pistons in good shape that I will be selling at some point. For those following previous posts on getting my new 1969 2002 running, it turned out power was less than expected because it was a basically stock 1.6L engine with Weber 45 DCOE's and a header slapped on it. Now building a proper 2.0L race engine for it (11.5:1 pistons and Schrick 316 cam).
