So, I had a very interesting, and VERY fun weekend. Trevor(twest from the board), and I took off to Calgary to fetch his new 76 02A.

We flew in(1 hour), spent the weekend with some old friends of mine, and drove the newly acquired "Snowflake" home to Vancouver. We had some sketchy moments, but everything went quite well overall. PO had been using 5w30, so an oil change was required. However, we couldn't find someone to do it on saturday afternoon. As luck would have it, we ran into a fellow 02er at Canadian Tire, who happens to own a 71ti. He was kind enough to offer up his garage, so that we could change the oil.

We left Calgary on sunday, and drove 12 hours home. The drive was incredible, despite driving through all 4 seasons in the same day! Here's some pics from our great adventure.

Hi Al, Nice pics. Your old friend and his wife must really love you, to have to put up with all of your ANTI-SMOKING B.S. for the whole weekend. Good thing you were with Trevor, a great guy & a smoker. I'm glad you guys made it home o.k. and I'm positive the both of you would be welcome to come back any time.

Hey Buddy,

Thanx again for having us. My nose has finally quit bleeding from the second hand smoke, so I think I'll survive, but I'm sure I'll take a dirt nap a few years sooner than I had hoped! Now it's your turn to get your ass out to Vancouver.

Al

I HAVE to get back to the Canadian Rockies- it has been too long and your pics were great reminders of the beauty up there. Nice square light- looks like another great 02 adventure. I spied an "Alpina" plate on the green round light present for your oil change. Any info on that car?

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
