i read in the archives that someone put a pretty hefty gm

alternator on an 02 with no problems. can this be done without

custom braket fabrication?

also, what about 5 series alternators. i know some have 528e

alternators, but there are many different alternators for the

different years. i know the later ones have very long mounting

points and don't really look like they should fit. The earlier

ones that look similar are only 65 amp - the same ones put in the

3 series.

can any one tell me exactly what alternator can be used,

hopefully around 80A or so. bosch model number would be ideal.

they even put different alternators in some of the cars in the same

80 amp Bosch E30 318 alternator (Bosch part no. 0-120-469-617) can be adapted by using the the top and bottom mounting brackets from the 318, or modifying the existing brackets. Email me if you want details.
