White 1973 2002 in Greensboro NC

I looked at this car yesterday. Except for the low compression (@110 on all four cylinders) and lousy leakdown numbers (20-35) the car runs great! Except for the rust inside the entire lip of the trunk and hood, this car is absolutely rust free! Forget the six or eight odds and ends that need attention. Lights, horn, etc. It seemed low on power on my test ride (was not offered a test drive) but, what do I know? It's been thirty years since I last drove a 2002 regularly.

The seller assured me before I made the four hour trip, the car needed absolutely nothing and ran like a top. In addition, it was dry and absolutely rust free. Must be since he wants $11.5 large. After I gave him the good news re the PPI, he acquiesced, and reduced his price to $9k. After all, it's at least a twelve year old Korman rebuild! With mismatched twin Webers!

My advice is rush right over to Greensboro where you can buy a $5k 2002 for $9k! Talk to the the seller, or, listen, since your not likely to get a word in.

Trying to find a car is like having a second job! Now if I can only get the dealer in Atlanta to call me back, I may be able to trade one misery for another.

I hope there's a lesson here for 2002 owner wanna be's. I feel a little better.

Too bad many sellers are not 100% honest. Especially when travel is involved. I cannot tell you how many disappointing trips I have made wasting both vaulable time and money to look at cars that were misrepresented.

I have been searching for a roundie project in the Southeast going on three months now. The search continues (hint hint)! Eventually the right car turns up. It always does. The hunt is almost like having a second job!

My sentiments exactly! We should talk, no kidding. I've found some decent cars (roundies) but not exactly what I'm looking for. Odds are we are not looking for the same car. I've decided not to settle (been there done that), so I'm looking for Inca or Golf (maybe Verona or Riviera), black interior 73 or older. $12k or less. I'm going to look at a local car, but, it's Agave. What are you looking for, i.e., what are your preferences?

Check your email.

Maybe I can lessen your woes

wareal, you may want to check this one out. It looks stunning from the pictures the owner sent me today. He seems like a great guy as well.

I am looking for a patina roundie in the 4k-5k range hopefully in the Southeast. Trying to sneak another old BMW past the wife!

If you have any leads I would be forever indebted to you!

Six of them are Square Tails.

So, if you are considering those, the Turbo one looks pretty good, but you need to find out about that turbo, as that could be scary. The one in Bakersfield looks pretty good too.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
