South Bay/San Jose Meet

I'd like to see a bay area group meet as well! Having only Brisbane once a year is pretty weak considering the number of 02's here in the bay area!

I'm just now getting my 71 on the road as a daily driver. Wife and I put a couple hundred miles on it this weekend.

Everyone interested go ahead and shoot me an email (jack @ jackstrutz.com) and we'll get an email thread going about planning something out.

kronus, I'd be interested to know where those meets are as well. I'm a younger dude so I'd love to get in touch with the community out here.

VonTrapp I live just off the Brokaw exit on the 880.

I'd be very much in for any kind of meet up. We (the BayArea02 group that puts the show on) used to have a drive every second Saturday of the month. Some North, East, West and South. Different folks would show from all areas. Lack of time and low turnout has caused me to stop planning drives. Well, that ans I don't currently have a running '02 of my own, though I work on hundreds of them at Casey Motorsports....

We ARE planning our annual San Francisco Not the 49 Mile Scenic Drive for December. Likely to be the 15th.

There is a large list of old BayArea02 drives available to redo as well as simple guidelines to help someone plan a new one. I'd LOVE to have at least bi-monthly meets/drives again. Email me through the FAQ link if you're interested in helping out.

Cheers,

Agreed. If you guys want to join forces with the e24 crew, there's at least 3-5 cars that would probably show up as well.

I'm getting new info about the SJ and Tanforan meets, the stuff I found is a bit stale, but the basic info is 9PM in the Tanforan starbucks lot and somewhere in a parking lot in San Jose, alternating weeks. Will update.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
