Radios were dealer installed. Flexibility was certainly a possibility but not the rule. Blaupunkts -- often the monaural version of the Frankfurt model -- seem to have been the most popular from the early '70s onward. A few cars, like my '76, got Beckers when new -- because I specified a Becker Europa II Stereo. But when my Becker was stolen, I replaced it with a Blaupunkt AM/FM cassette: the Becker cassette players were way above my pay grade!

All of these radios are available on eBay these days, although the stereo version of the Blaupunkt is a bit more difficult to find.

Good luck with your project!
