NEED HELP! Bought 1976 BMW 2002

i recently purchased a 1976 bmw 2002 the car had many things replaced like spark plugs,cables,carburetor,and fuel pump. the car was starting up right and everything no problem i then stopped using it for a week but the car just turns over but dosnt start up, i press the gas and the fuel filter looks empty like if gas dosnt pass through. i then added gas in the carburetor and then with a couple of turns it starts up. i need help determining whats the problem.

Fuel lines are old and have leaks. Fuel is draining back to the tank. Replace all the fuel lines.

Sort of. Try disconnecting at the carb and directing the hose into a container. Give it a crank and see if you get a healthy dose of petrol. No fuel? Pipes and pump are suspect.

Common is a plugged- up screen in the fuel tank....

pull the sender, and at the bottom, there should be a screen.

Also common is to have the screen missing, and the

junk in the bottom of the tank gets sucked into the pump,

rendering it unable to do so.
