speedo removal

different appearances between the years, there are three different internal gear ratios on US cars: one for all 1600s (4.11 diff), one for all 2002s (3.64 diff) except '76 cars. They have a 3.90 diff installed. Somewhere on the board is a list of the "W" numbers stamped on the back of the speedo, and which diff they go with.

Removal is easy--reach under the dash, undo the two aluminum thumbnuts (don't lose their rubber washers), unscrew the speedo cable and pull the instrument cluster towards you. Once it's cleared the dash, unplug the wiring harness and you've got it.

cheers

to piggy back on mikes post, i pulled the cluster from the top and wiggled it out. ALSO!, when you pull it out and it is resting on the column cover in front of the steering wheel, be careful as the column cover can be brittle and the cluster can poke a hole in it if you put weight on it... ask me how i know....
