... but I'd like to do it for less. Shipping is from Los Angeles to Ohio. Most quotes I have are $1200 and up. It seems that I take a hit of $75-300 for a non-running car. Any suggestions? I've contacted Horseless, Intercity and a few others.

TIA,

Karl ... but you can call me 'cheap'

of listings of people looking for, and offering to haul cars. A $75-300 premium for a non-driving car is not too bad though! I would think you should be able to get it shipped for around $5-600 if you check around a bit.

lotsa ads in there under "services offered."

If you're in no burning hurry, the best thing to find is a hobbyist or delivery company who are gonna be deadheading back from California--picking up a shipment is gravy to them so they can cut you a deal. I worked out something similar when I was dickering for a car in downstate NY. Found a company that would deliver the car to OH next time they had an empty carrier going from NY to OH--for $200 or so.

Cheers

Can't believe that I forgot about Hemmings. Did a quick search on their website and found a number of companies to call. Once all the paperwork is finalized and delivery arranged, I'll be getting a '70 1600-2. Nothing rational about this purchase but I wanted an early sunroof 02 to help celebrate 20 years since I bought my first 02 (in 1984). I only called about this one because I knew I would kick myself if I didn't. Who knows... maybe its an early onset of mid-life crisis. It was listed as a rustfree CA car and I hope that's really true this time. We'll see what shows up and hopefully I won't be too disappointed. I also have this itch to get a Mini (original, not a new one). The disease continues to progress...

Too big a block of time right now. It would be fun to do if I had a week or two. Its my backup plan though.
