Just sold this car to an FAQ member! I am so happy it went to not only a BMW lover but a forum member as well. Keeping his contact info so I can try to buy it back from his daughter in 20 years.

History:

My grandmother bought this car from the original owner in Florida at some point in the 90’s. She gave it to me in 2004 and it has been my daily driver since. From 2004 to 2008 it was with me in Illinois (garage kept). In 2008 it was driven out to California. It has the original engine and transmission, but the differential was replaced with a used unit in 2006 when the original was damaged by a mechanic.

Background:

This is not a glamorous car, but a workhorse car. Thus I didn’t take glamour shots. I did try to photograph every imperfection possible.

This car was my daily driver until my ‘74 2002 Tii became reliable enough to take that honor. Now it needs a new home.

The Good:

Originally a Florida car. Now a California car.

Convertible top replaced in 2007. Still in great condition. No fogging in rear window. No holes.

325iS Spoiler

BMW sport seats

BMW sport steering wheel

Engine pulls very strong thanks to its aftermarket ECU chip (have original)

Never in a major collision

Garage kept for most of its life

New exhaust (from center section to back)

All tires have good tread

Always had regular oil changes

Comes with new (not installed) front discs and pads

Original spare wheel

Original tool kit (1 adapter missing)

Original jack and lug nut wrench

Original owner’s manual and service books

All four windows work fine

Outside of anything listed in “the bad: everything works great

No major rust. Only some small spots of surface rust

The Bad:

While parked, the car was lightly hit in front left wing and offender drove away. Photos of repaired section in gallery.

Driver seat torn in typical places.

Brakes are fine but not terribly strong. I planned on replacing the front discs and pads but I couldn’t get the set screw out to remove the discs. So a set of free front discs and pads come with purchase.

Once in a blue moon the car will have difficulty starting. Give it 3-4 tries and she fires right up.

Radio was stolen in 2009. Burglar broke the computer in the center console. Photos in Gallery

Chin spoiler is held on by combination of correct screws and a couple of zip ties. At some point my grandmother must have lost the original one. I pulled a used one from a Pick-and-Pull.

Odometer froze in 2004 at just over 50,000 miles.

Small dent on left rear wheel arch. Photo in gallery

Hood and trunk has lots of small scratches in paint.

Small portion of paint on hood was damaged by drips of oil by a mechanic in 2004. Grandma was too nice to ask him to repair it.

Driver sun visor is torn. Photo in gallery

Typical, slow oil leak. I add a quart every 6 - 8 months.

Steering wheel leather was cracking so I put a cover on it. Photo in gallery

Missing two center wheel caps

Floor mats are not original

Trunk mat is not original

Not all glass is original.

Antenna is stuck at half mast but otherwise works fine.

One of the speakers squeaks and could use replacing

Didn't get any bites, so I have reduced the asking price to $2500 OBO. Also posting it on Craigslist today as I had only posted it on here and the E30 forums. Was hoping to sell it to a BMW lover but we'll see.

No bites from anyone on the forum. Couple dozen on Craigslist but everyone is so flaky. Only one person actually showed up of the 5 or 6 you said they would. Was really hopping this car went to bimmer lover.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
