Guest Anonymous
76 02 ...driving this morn and lost all gauge readings. She still runs but I have to keep turning the engine to get it going. Hence rough idle..and stalling ? I just changed the fuses. < shaky temp and fuel gauge>. Help !
Guest Anonymous
1. A sudden rough idle is often the result of a vacuum leak spring up...anything loose that shouldn't be (carb, breather hose, vac advance line to distrib?) If not, check the vac advance. With engine off, remove hose from carb and suck on it. You should feel resistance. If not, pop the dizzy cap and suck again. The point plate should move. If it doesn't then the vac advance capsule on the dizzy has died. 2. If roughness is at idle only (goes away under load or at higher RPMs) it's probably not plugs or plug wires--they cause problems under load. 3. If above proves not to help, pull idle jets in carb and inspect for dirt, crud etc. The tiniest fleck of grunge can plug an idle jet, and they provide most of the fuel flow thru the carb up to about 2500 rpm. Twitchy gauges are usually either a corroded fuse or a bad ground from instruments to body. You should add a ground wire from the back of the two instruments to the body (must pull gauge cluster to accomplish). Hope that helps--post what you find. Guest Anonymous
Could be intermittent power to some part of the emissions electrical equip. Check fuses again, clean fuse contacts, and bend fuse contacts so they're tight. Curt
