Webers on a tii...

I know it sounds crazy but I was wondering if anyone here has seen or done this? What is the most modifications anyone has seen done on a tii motor? I am doing a little research right now and any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance for any help.

not sure why you would take off the kfish for webers. not going to get any more power, will have less drivability, and tuning becomes much more complicated.....

and i am a dual weber guy...

well the tii I was looking had this done his motor http://www.racetep.com/bmwngin.html#02b (performance street engine 2bbl) I was asking the owner the same thing and he said he wanted the most power out of it. I know nothing about carbs and these are duel 45’s…. just wondering if anyone here has done this and how reliable was it?

Not that I am recommending this, but there have been significant advances in sidedraft weber tuning in the last couple of years. You will indeed be able to get more power from a pair of properly set up 45 DCOE carbs than the factory Tii factory injection.

But, if all you want is more power, there are many different ways to accomplish that (how much $$ do you have) with strokers, motor swaps, etc.

If you want a Tii, don't muck with things and live with what God gave your Tii. And, unless you have freshened up your Tii recently, you are missing out on a lot of performance.,

Amen. Why would you want to take away what makes a tii unique?

Well I think that attitude is a little bit pedantic. I bought a 74 non-tii that began life as a tii. A prior owner converted to 40 DCOE Weber. No idea why. Maybe it ran like crap and was too expensive to sort out. It seems to run great now. I don't think it is worth the expense of reconverting it. I suppose I have a bastard fraud car but I'm happy with it.

Your point must be that K injection is such a fundamental part it a tii that once lost it ceases to be a tii. It isn't, for other reasons, a plain 02 -- it is nothing. Such a pity.

Spend your money however you please. I personally place a lower value on a tii w/o the MFI than on a 2002 with dual side drafts, all other aspects being equal. Just not a big demand out there for tiis with carbs, even if they are great cars.

That was pretty common back in the '70's when no one nor their mother

knew how to maintain the Kfish, there was no computer net thingy,

and sidedrafts were in their heyday. And people knew people

who DID know how to tune them, sometimes.

Also, a nice fat cam was just a rejet (or 2 or 3) away from increased performance.

AND the dimensions of the special tools were as well- kept a secret as

TIS, INPA, ETK and NCSExpert and EDIBAS are... oh. errr... what? Russia?

Anyway, as I was saying, there WERE very good reasons to do it, especially

if the pump pooped.

Now, maybe not so much, as the things are much more collectible.

I've got a collection of tii parts. One of these days I might try making it

work, just out of historical interest.

Oh, wait, what, EFI? No, the only way I'd mess with it was if I wanted to drop my

E Prod car down to F Prod...

As always, it's your car,

but these days, sell an original tii if you want to build a hotrod-

you'll get a ton of funds that'll buy a BUNCH of speed parts AND a carbed

2002 that's a great base to start from.

H*ll, buy my street rat just for the parts...

And you'll avoid all the s*&t that this board will toss at you for

'desecrating' a car...

Well no money has been spent on anything as of yet as I am just looking and I take it it is not a popular thing to do from all the replies. The reason I even asked was because I was thinking about getting it back to original anyways. Just needed to see if anyone has done it and what cost were involved. The guy selling made it seem as easy as replacing the carbs with a the K-fisch and “viola”.
