Hi alls,

I think I have earlier Alpina Steel Wheels : nothing in the center, but in the wheel : 13 X 5 J CMR 10 67.

Pics to come.

You sure do. Now THAT'S what we're looking for! For my database, are all four rims dated 10/67? The photo of the (orange) tire race shows "CMR" clearly but the number data is unclear. When examined closely in person, are the dates unambiguous (I just want to know that they're 10/67 rather than, for instance, 10/69)?

Great set, complete with original center caps!

Thanks for posting.

Best,

Steve

If memory serves, Ti came with 5.5 x 13

These rims, of course, are Alpina (CMR) steelies, not factory steelies. I don't believe the proximity of the photographed rims to the ti air filter housing was intended to imply these October '67 rims were original to a ti.

Parenthetically, the ti, like the tii after it, came from BMW with 5x13's (all cars other than the 2002ti and tii certainly came with 4.5x13's prior to the August '73 switch to styled steel rims, which put all U.S. models on the "5x13 standard"). The first '02 offered by the factory with 5.5x13 steel rims -- and, I suppose, also the last -- was the factory turbo.

Steve

I have updated my 25 June 2012 and 10 July 2012 posts (numbers 1 and 38, respectively, of this thread) to reflect this latest data! A pdf file replaces the old photograph of my summary sheet.

for sale in France, you have size and date : http://www.leboncoin.fr/equipement_auto/540474592.htm?ca=8_s

Great price! And a set of 5 to boot! Could be ET17, could be ET30. Either will work on an '02.

Thanks,

Steve

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
