in SoCal .... a 2002 lunch gathering in Chino ....

Recommended Posts

introduced via the Forum, bourkeco and I met for lunch today in Chino at Centro Basco. His first time there, he met several of the regulars, one of them being a guy from his home town. Lots of 2002 discussion and ogling of each other's 2002.

--- and I just realized: we took no pictures ..... oops.

We had such a fine time, we're planning to again meet this Thursday for lunch !!

SO, I will offer a general lunch invitation for this Thursday (May 31st) at Centro Basco in Chino. My '74 2002tii will be there, with the obligatory green car cover shading it from the sun.

If you can be there, please meet in the bar before noon, family-style seating is promptly at noon.

Centro Basco, 13432 S. Central Ave, Chino

just tossing out ideas here .....

bourkeco and I did discuss this as a Saturday or Sunday 2002 gathering opportunity .... a Cars and Coffee and Lunch idea .... or later in the day for Cars and Coffee and Dinner ....

(I'm sure Bernadette (the owner) could accommodate everyone in a separate dining area, if desired).

there is a large parking area behind & adjacent to CB which would accommodate many 2002's for show and tell ......

Cheers,

Carl

to elaborate a bit more on what I've been doing, and to which everyone is invited for any or all ....

Always 1) and 3), and sometimes 2):

1) at 8am I arrive at Prado Shooting Park in Chino for some trap shooting.

2) (optional) sometimes I will depart Prado about 10am-ish and zoom 16 miles over to Galleano Winery and do some wine tasting. (Galleano is located in the SE quadrant of the intersection of the 60 Fwy and I-15).

3) then I drive the 9 miles to Centro Basco to arrive no later than 11:45am for family-style lunch.

Gets me out of the house for some fresh air, and always a fantastic lunch.

SO, tomorrow Thursday, I will definitely be doing 1) and 3) .... 2) remains optional at this moment.

Cheers,

Carl

I'm not really at a point where I will be able to participate, even though the DMV didn't allow me to NoOp my '73 2002 when I registered it yesterday so I could in principle drive it. The main problem is: could you imagine sitting on this more than momentarily -

just to update Thursday: I did get to Prado and do some trap shooting. Then I drove over to Centro Basco and just as I arrived, bourkeco arrived ..... on his BMW motorcycle !! He had woken up early and taken a mountain-road ride up to Wrightwood, then down to the I-15 and back to Chino.

A fantastic family-style lunch (onion soup, salad, chicken salad, braised lamb shanks, bread, blue cheese, and wine) was enjoyed by all.

AND .... looks like I'll be doing it all again tomorrow (Friday). Another pal will be showing up for lunch, so I am "obligated" to meet him.

Cheers,

Carl

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
