do you have more pics of the rear, where and how you mounted the nissan rear subframe

Here is the rear cross rail for the subframe. The round bar is welded top & bottom in the RHS like a crush tube, and the round also has a 3.2mm wall thickness because it also is needed to act as a locator for the 2 rear mounting bushes in the subframe.

Well it's been a while since i last up dated.

Since last post i had been hunting down a power plant. Most suppliers wanted $3,500 (or more) for a front half-cut, or wreckers wanted $2,500 just for a motor and loom with ecu but no gearbox.

So I started looking into damaged vehicle motor auctions. Silvia's, 180SX's, 200SX's from S13 to S15 were selling for between $3500 up to $5000 depending on there condition. At least this option gave me a complete car to use whatever else i needed to complete the build.

I finally acquired a '96 model S14 VCT SR20DET 200SX with hail damaged repairable write off.

In all, it's a good buy for $2,600. Ran on the dyno at 14psi pulled 248 rwhp (185kw).

At this stage now fabrication is done, all but the g/box mounting points.

All the Nissan front bulkhead is finished, which has allowed the use of the nissan pedal boxes, plus the height adjustable steering column. Another big bonus doing this has allowed for the brake booster to be mounted on the right hand side, unlike the original '02 dual boosters that were on the LH side (which would have been in the way of the turbo).

I decided to go with a Painless wiring loom for the car, to avoid any potential future issues with the old loom. When I removed the OEM loom I noticed it was badly weathered and brittle. I will be also using the Nissan engine loom and ECU for the short term.

A good friend has started to make the carbon bonnet and bootlid. Plus I have been lucky enough to get the loan of a turbo front spoiler mould off another '02 FAQ user "devilspace". And I am still undecided about going with a full Zender Alpine style wide body kit in Carbon or the go with the Tii turbo bubble flares.

Inset to fit the Nissan booster

Fits like a glove now. Once completed, the pedals boxes (Right) all bolt up like factory.

Took it out to Wakefield Park raceway to see if there were any potential issues that need to be fixed before transplanting into the '02. Luckily, it didn't miss a beat.

1st attempt for making custom 2002 badge, went horribly wrong. As someone else mentioned... looks more like a Ferrari badge!!!

Have finished chopping into the rear qtrs to fit the temporary flares. Will also be ready for wide body kit, once i decide which style i prefer.

Still a long way from being ready for paint. But did a test for the preferred Satin Black look, and thinking it will be the right choice.

Not being a panel beater, this has been the most ambitious decision i have made to date... fill in the rear bar groove, plus change exhaust cut out to the centre.

I just don't like the look of the rear without the bar, and hope that this decision to fill it in, won't haunt me for ever. So far, i'm happy with the outcome... time will tell... Dare I ask for anyones feedback???

Are you intending to just put the SR into your '02, or complete suspension and driveline? Is your intention to drive on the streets registered, or for track only use? Our cars here in Oz, are RHD, which will cause a new set of issues that i haven't had to deal with.

Happy to help if possible, which ever direction you are thinking of.

"It is not worth it." Time will tell for me, but it has been worth it so far. I am yet to drive it though, it could be an epic fail. I have undertaken this build just to have something unique. People may argue that its unique..ness, is BAD or GOOD. Either way i will persist and tweak until i am happy with it.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
