Aussie built for drifting.

Recommended Posts

I thought i might finally start a thread for my long term project.

The overly ambitious intention is to Drift my 73 Fjord.

Due to numerous factors, restoring to original was not a easy option because of the lack of parts available here.

So after reading many various threads from FAQ and other forums, i decided to shy away from sourcing BMW drive trains to compete with. Now in some threads I have discovered that it is possible to transplant alot of the Nissan S13 180SX (240SX USA) drive train.

I'm sure this thread might upset some people, but I hope it is worth a look at anyway.

Nice!

Are you thinking of doing an SR20 swap? I don't know if it was ever completed, but there was a guy on here swapping motor, trans, and rearend from an s13 i believe. I don't know about where you are, but I bought an SR from tigerjapanese.com with good luck.

Yes I am going SR20 with complete S13 suspension front and rear.

The guys at Dent have been such an amazing source of help. They did an SR2002 with S13 front end only, which ended up looking awesome.

I will upload some more photo's over the next few days. All of my work progress photo's are too large to upload at the moment, so i am in the process of scaling them down. Then I will continue to add them as I go.

Cheers mate!

  • 3 months later...

New update, been busy getting things done.

As of today the complete Nissan S13 suspension front & rear is done. Also decided to upgrade to 5 stud Skyline R33 hubs and brakes. Complete rear adjustable arms. Skyline R32 LSD.

Complete front bulkhead (firewall) changed to suit the nissan pedal boxes and steering column.

Finished the rollcage fabrication and had a great guy, who is also a BMW fan (E21 JPS track car) & an amazing welder, came over and he TIG welded it together today.

Now deciding whether to paint it black to blend into the rest of the interior, or to go a little left of field... and give it a mild polish and seal it with a clear acrylic.

Any feedback welcome.

Love the build! I'm in Sydney as well, so if you need parts or a spare set of hands, give me a shout.

If you're on Facebook, think about joining a page I set up for Aussie '02 owners - BMW 2002 Owners Club, Australia.

One of the members is doing an S15 SR20DET swap at the moment, so you'll have some company. :)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
