Sorry to hear about your odo issues, Earl.

;-)

Cheers,

Alabama has a antique plate that does away with the need to re register annually. The down side is the car is restricted from daily driver duties as a mileage limit is specified.

Stop reading this! Don't you have anything better to do?? :P

It's a 20 minute job to swap out a speedometer/odometer. Much less hassle than changing VIN numbers...or so I've heard.

Permanent Plates! No more license fees, no more state inspections.

Don

P4190720.jpg

For those who love to bag on California...

We always have had permanent plates, and we have no state inspections (unlike Louisiana where they inspect a car, check for license, registration AND INSURANCE) 75 and older cars are exempt from smog checks and license fees are cheap. I pay less than $70 a year on my 69 and my 74. That's one and a half tanks of gas.

From the Louisiana DMV: LICENSE PLATES FOR ANTIQUE, CLASSIC OR VINTAGE MOTORS: ELIGIBILITY.

Any private passenger automobile, van, private truck up to 10,000 lbs, motor home, or motorcycle which is at least twenty-five (25) years old and which has been restored to its original condition without modifications contrary to stock specifications, is eligible for this plate.

Cars must be and remain stock in order to qualify.

No flares, no air dams, no S14s or M20s, no sidedrafts, lowering springs or Recaros. (or a hosts of others mods we do to our cars)

Yeah PA was the same. I had to submit 4 pics of the car and my application was originally turned down because the PO had put a windshield banner on the car. I had to remove the banner, rephoto it and resubmit my app.

Of course there was no requirement for a pic of the engine compartment ... and once you get the plate they never see the car again ...

How many other states out there have the option of personalized antique or classic plates??

VA has the option of personalized antique tags on the yellow ones, but not the black ones.

Yeah, actually I submitted photos of my car, one requirement. Not sure what they used as reference, but I heard they have turned cars down for being too butched up.

Don

I don't think they check for stockness in LA Pierre.

Cheers,

Ray

Aren't you glad you didn't put those urethane sway bar bushings in?

Have a great trip to AR Don!

We have collector plates here and are supposedly under mileage restrictions but ive put 40k on mine in 3 years and been pulled over multiple times and ticketed for other things but never questioned on plates.

That gets you out of the annual Virginia "safety" inspection that winds up as you showing someone how to operate the turn signals and windshield wipers.

Our lovely commonwealth also has the no daily driver/commuting restriction for antique/classic registrations. I have no idea how they enforce that but, seeing as how harsh penalties are for other vehicle infractions, I am not willing to test them on it.

The usage problem manifests itself with the insurance company, not the DMV. If you get into an accident on your way to work with your "limited use" vehicle, the insurance may give you a hard time covering you. They may cover the incident and then drop you as a customer since they may feel you cheated them. And they share their information with other companies. I had a lengthy conversation with my insurance agent about it. Insurance companies love to take your money and hate to pay claims. So they'll sound pretty lax when they sell you the policy but will find ANY REASON not to cover you when the time comes.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
