my younger cousins race their AFX cars last summer.

I do like some of the NASCAR commercials though

"Can I make a right turn?"

:-/ "Why would you want to do that?!?"

...as long as they have spectacular crashes, which are what the fans seem to crave. I feel sorry for the drivers - yeah, they make great money, but thrill-wise, NASCAR racing seems very close to driving any major-city freeway in rush-hour traffic (nowhere else is Sgt. Preston's Law of the Yukon more thoroughly applied than in a NASCAR restrictor-plate race). NASCAR just doesn't hold my interest anymore; there's so little room for creativity in either car building or driving. Parade-like though it can be, F1 still rewards me occasionally with a daring move or clever tactic.

All that said, I was suitably impressed with little Jeffie Gordon's drive of Formula Juan's F1 car at Indy this week. That, and his recent experiences in a rally car, tell me that Jeff has a lot more talent than he gets to display on the NASCAR circuit.

One day soon, I fear that Speed will become "all NASCAR, all the time," when they decide that they can make more money selling NASCAR memorabilia than airing the World Rally Championship. Then we'll have to start over by building a new racing channel.

Married w/ Children, Simpsons, anyything Oprah would disapprove of. Even though I like Nascar (not nearly as much as other racing- but racing is better than no racing), I am saturated too by all the fill-in shows. I liked the Tech show, but cannot find it anymore- just a lot of driver/talking heads in Team shirts instead of in the garage-based stuff. BUT, it is 0635 on Pacific Coast right now ( Saturday) and Speed has some sort of Le Mans related show on.... I think they plan to spend a fair amount of time this weekend covering the race. But remember- they are up against a full slate of Nascar stuff on Fox.And they have contracts for the post race shows. oh well...

> Among their ideas: a reality-based NASCAR show ...

They could drive cars right off the showroom floor, they could call them ... stock cars.

This kind of radical thinking would have gotten you burned at the stake during the Middle Ages. If Bill France Jr. shows up on your doorstep in shiny red robes and a funny hat, run.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
