Guest Anonymous
Bought the Flat Four brand VW Type-1 (part # VWB-810) powder coated roof rack from www.mooneyes.com for $129 +23 shipping. Requires cutting, lots of fitting, a little bending, and some welding. Sorry, no pics, but it looks pretty vintage.
Guest Anonymous
And Scot, any pics of your ateration? The moon eyes site doesn't have any pics of the rack there. Is it in fact the same looking rack? Rob

Guest Anonymous
That rack looks like just the ticket for my '73tii which is entering the "Targa Newfoundland" Tarmac Rally (1500km) in September. As we have no "support vehicle", such a rack is what we need to carry a few spare tires, equipment, etc. Who has them for sale? Level of Difficulty to install? Guest Anonymous
They have a wire mesh cage that fits between the crossbars. Should be able to carry a good amount of weight. Real stable platform. Can be pricey new, but my Yak rack is almost 20 years old and still used every week. If cost is a real issue, check the local bike swap meets or even Ebay. You need the 1A towers which are the old style. If you don't want to spring for the Yakima cage, it should be easy enough to get something fab'd. After the rallye, you could could always get bike, ski, kayak attachments. Guest Anonymous
Thanks Steve... I see a set of 4 1A Towers on Ebay (Item #3612995493)... those the ones? Do I need separate cross members to link the pairs of towers? And you say Yakima make a wire mesh platform? Have you got a part # or photo? Thanks tons...
