engine and drivetrain 320i manifold a good replacement for a '76 stock?

I'm in CA so I need to keep my emissions equip (at least for now). I'm about to swap out the engine on my car, and am looking into alternatives for the stock exhaust manifold that will give better flow and hopefully longer engine life. I've heard that using an early 320i manifold ('77 - '79) works, anybody have any opinions?
