exhaust manifold cleaning

I would like to clean both the inside and outside of my newly acquired tii manifold. Has anybody tried electrolysis on a manifold? Is there an easier way to clean the unit? Is it even nessary?

I've used electrolysis to de-rust brake drums, no reason it wouldn't work on a manifold. You'd have to be very clever at forming the anode to do the insides, however.

Is it necessary? Only if you plan to put some kind of coating on the manifold. In that case, I'd recommend abrasive blasting.
