Instructions on prepping, priming, sanding, painting?

About a year or so ago (either here or on a$$fly board) someone had a brief description of how to prep, prime, finish coat touch up spots on hood or roof. It was complete with suggested grit paper at each stage, number of coats, etc. I have a half dozen or so spots on my hood and roof that I would like to sand down and touch up. I am not terribly concerned about the new paint not matching the fade of the old paint, just want to stop the surface rusting.

Can anyone give me some help? I was hoping for a quick writeup as to how to touch up the car a little.

TIA

Chuck
