what's with rear badge placement?

I've seen a few (only a rare few) 02/1600s with the

roundel and designation in the area right below the

trunklid over on the pass side, in the tight spot

between the trunklid and the aluminum strip that

connects the taillights. I got some of that badging

off a gray market car. is this some Euro

designation? perhaps to free up more of the space

on the sides of OUR plates to afford more space

for the wide Euro license tags?

1600s (66 and 67) but it's been awhile since I've seen one. Check the article in the Feb 2002 Roundel on Scott and Fran Hughes' all original 1967 1600.

Although toward the 68-69 changeover they went to the larger 1600 emblem mounted between the right tail light and the license. Very, very, very early 1600s had a script that read bmw1600 instead of the roundel.
