I have developed an irritating squeaking noise from the front end that happens on bumps and more frequently under braking. Ideas? The rubber up front is probably original so poly bushings all around probably will be the fix?

probably

try soaking all the front end bushings with WD-40 and see

if all is quiet ?

but then again - any squeak from your 30+ year old car might be a

signal that something mechanical is about to FAIL AND KILL sombody.

better take a LOOK

Remember that poly bushings will make your ride much rougher/harsher. I'm suprised c.d. didn't mention it, but good old OE rubber bushings would probably give you another 30 yrs. of pleasurable driving. Might want to check your motor mounts and tranny mount while you're at it. The engine/tranny could be shifting forward under braking if either of those need replacing.

It may seem silly, but also check/lubricate the throttle linkage pivot point high up on the firewall.
